Physical Therapist and Certified Pilates Instructor
Kelly was born and raised in Romeo, Michigan. In 1997, Kelly completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Physiology at Central Michigan University. Having watched her older brother endure years of extensive Physical Therapy from being a Professional Motocross racer, she discovered her strong interest in medicine. She received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Slippery Rock University in 2001. Her clinical rotations led her to Longmont United Hospital, CO. Once experiencing Colorado, she was hooked and never looked back.
She has worked in various outpatient Physical Medicine departments and has treated a wide variety of orthopedic patients. Kelly has a strong desire to learn and has taken hundreds of hours of continuing education related to rehabilitation. Her many topics of study have included Pilates, Orthopedics, Pre/post natal Pilates, Vestibular Rehab, Manual therapy, and Biomechanical Foot Courses. Kelly has completed her Manual Therapy Certification through the University of St. Augustine. She also has her Pilates certification through both Polestar Pilates Education and Pilates Method Alliance.
Her approach begins with listening to her patients. Her emphasis is “hands on.” This includes manual therapy techniques, movement analysis, exercise, and Pilates. Kelly strives to be an educator, teaching her patients efficient functionality to improve their quality of life. She and her husband Tim enjoy activities with their two children, including camping, running, mountain biking, hiking, and snowboarding.
“I completely tore my left ACL in July of 2013. Surgery went well and I showed up at Avanti days later to start my therapy. Kelly had me on the stationary bike and moving right away. Doing my rehabilitation at Avanti, I was privy to an entire team of specialists who were all there to support my body’s healing. Post surgery healing was an issue for me, but after manual lymph drainage, I was able to achieve full knee movement. During PT, I found other muscles and areas becoming problematic. Kelly was able to analyze the causes, and diagnose and treat each issue with various techniques and treatment plans. By June, I was almost back to 100% and in July, I was back on pitch with a brace, playing soccer. PT is what you put into it, and Avanti offers a full staff of fabulous caregivers to help you get back to where you want to be.” —Mark Hickey
